Solo Female Travel in India — Honest Advice from Our Guides

Solo female travel in India is growing fast — and when planned well, it is richly rewarding. Our women guides and many of our repeat clients are solo travellers. Here is the honest advice they share.
Route matters
Certain states are much more solo-friendly than others — Kerala, Himachal, Sikkim, Karnataka, Rajasthan (tourist circuits), Goa. Most of our itineraries are built specifically with solo travellers in mind: boutique heritage stays, vetted drivers, daylight-only long-distance drives.
Where you stay is everything
Skip budget hostels in unfamiliar cities. Stay at heritage boutique properties (usually 15-25 rooms), guesthouses run by women, or well-reviewed mid-tier chains. The ₹1,000-2,000 extra per night buys enormous peace of mind.
Transport
Pre-booked private drivers over taxis. Day trains over night trains. Avoid arriving in new cities after dark. Our operations desk runs a 24-hour safety line exclusively for solo travellers.
Cultural notes
Dress modestly in rural areas and religious sites — it avoids unwanted attention and is respectful. A wedding ring (even a costume one) on the left hand reduces questions.
Come prepared, come curious
India rewards travellers who do a little homework and keep an open mind. Our dedicated solo-female departures run in groups of 6-8 and have been the most reviewed tours on our entire roster.
