How Bharat Yatra Began

Bharat Yatra Holidays was founded in 2011 in New Delhi by Rajesh Sharma — a Ministry of Tourism-certified guide who had spent the previous 14 years walking foreign travellers through Mughal forts, Rajput palaces, and Himalayan passes. Too many of those trips had been disappointing because of the same pattern: foreign operators who didn't know the back routes, guides who read off scripts, and itineraries that missed the stories that make Indian travel unforgettable.

Rajesh built Bharat Yatra to fix that — a tour operator run by Indians, staffed by Ministry of Tourism-certified guides, using our own vetted driver and vehicle fleet, partnering with heritage hotels and palace stays directly (no aggregator markups), and offering responsible-tourism practices built in from day one. Fourteen years later, we are a team of 4 expert tour leaders, 8 approved vehicles with full-time drivers, and 200+ hotel partners across 20+ Indian states.

We have guided over 10,000 travellers — from first-time India visitors on 10-day Golden Triangles to repeat clients who now come for our deep-dive regional tours (the Chettinad of Tamil Nadu, the tribal Bastar of Chhattisgarh, the forgotten kingdoms of Bundelkhand). Our Ayurveda & wellness retreats in Kerala, our tiger safaris in Ranthambore, our Ladakh Himalayan adventures, and our luxury Maharajas' Express journeys all run under the same philosophy: real guides, real stories, real India.

Why Travellers Choose Bharat Yatra

Six reasons our first-time India visitors come back for second and third trips — and send their friends.

Ministry-Certified Guides

Every expert guide on our team is certified by the Ministry of Tourism (Government of India) and holds active IATO credentials. Regional specialists, multilingual, and — most importantly — storytellers, not script-readers.

Our Own Vehicle Fleet

Eight vetted vehicles — Innova Crystas for families, Tempo Travellers for groups, Mahindra Thars for Ladakh, Volvo coaches for large tours. Full-time drivers with 8+ years on Indian roads. No sketchy third-party rentals.

Direct Hotel Partnerships

We partner directly with 200+ heritage palaces, boutique lodges, and beach resorts. No aggregator markups, first-access to room categories, and priority during festival season when availability is tight.

Responsible Tourism

We travel in groups of 2-12 (never more). We visit cultural sites during off-peak hours. We pay local guides and artisans fairly. We offset our fleet carbon via Sundarban mangrove restoration. Tourism shouldn't harm what it celebrates.

Transparent Pricing

Line-item proposals showing exactly where your rupees go — hotels, transport, guide fees, permits, meals, entrance fees, GST, our margin. No hidden surcharges. Any mid-trip changes get written approval.

24/7 Support On-Ground

Our Delhi operations desk is reachable by WhatsApp 24/7 — whether you're stuck at 3am with a flight delay in Jodhpur or need a doctor recommendation in Leh. We answer the phone.

Vision & Mission

The India we want our travellers to see — and the commitments behind every itinerary.

Our Vision

Our Vision

A future where international visitors to India return home with more than photographs — they return with stories. Where Indian tour operators are the ones telling those stories, not outsourced interpreters. Where responsible tourism is the norm, not the exception. Where the forgotten kingdoms, tribal cultures, and regional cuisines of India are celebrated as much as the Taj Mahal.
Our Mission

Our Mission

Design every itinerary around Ministry of Tourism-certified guides, vetted vehicles, and direct hotel partnerships. Travel in small groups (2-12) to protect sites and local communities. Pay regional guides, artisans, and hotel staff fairly. Offer transparent line-item pricing. Offset our carbon footprint. And share the real India — the one our guides grew up in.
Features

Our Core Values

The principles behind every itinerary we design, every guide we hire, every hotel we book.

Small Groups, Always

Never more than 12 travellers per group. Usually 2-6. Cultural sites degrade under mass tourism; our small-group model protects the places we celebrate and gives our guides time to actually teach.

Certified Guides Only

Every guide on our roster is Ministry of Tourism-certified. Regional specialists. Multilingual. Storytellers. Paid fairly — we pay our guides 40-50% above the typical tour-operator rate and provide health insurance.

Fair Local Economies

Artisan purchases go directly to the karigar, not through middlemen. We pay hotel invoices within 7 days, not 60. We source lunches from local dhabas and restaurants, not chain hotels. Tourism rupees stay local.

Responsible Tourism

Off-peak site visits. No elephant rides, no dolphin shows, no animal selfies. Plastic-free kits on every tour. Carbon offset via verified Sundarban mangrove reforestation. Tourism shouldn't harm what it celebrates.

Transparent Pricing

Every proposal shows line-items — hotels, transport, guide fees, permits, meals, taxes, margin. No hidden surcharges, no mid-trip shock costs. Changes go through written approval before any spend.

Safety Never Compromised

Full insurance on every vehicle and every traveller. Medical kits on every route. Satellite communication on high-altitude routes. Pre-travel health briefings. Wilderness First Responder-trained leaders on adventure tours.
