Shimla & Manali
The Queen of the Hills and the Valley of the Gods — colonial-era charm at Shimla, Himalayan splendour at Manali. Toy trains, apple orchards, Tibetan monasteries, and some of Indias finest winter landscapes.
Shimla & Manali: Himalayan Charm
Two of Himachal Pradesh's most beloved hill stations — Shimla, the British summer capital from 1864-1947 with its pine forests and colonial architecture, and Manali, the alpine town in the Kullu Valley with its snow-capped peaks and apple orchards. Together they form India's most iconic Himalayan loop.
Shimla highlights
The Mall Road and the Ridge, Christ Church (the second-oldest in north India), Gaiety Theatre, the toy train from Kalka (UNESCO World Heritage), Jakhu Temple with its giant Hanuman statue, and day trips to Kufri and Chail.
Manali highlights
Hadimba Devi Temple in cedar forest, Old Manali's quiet cafes, Solang Valley for snow sports and paragliding, Vashisht hot springs, Rohtang Pass (May-October), and the Beas River.
When to go
April-June for warm days. September-October for autumn colours. December-February for snow (chains required, but magical).
